Benin will host the Black Travel Summit in 2027, marking the event’s first occurrence on African soil. The announcement was made on 17 October 2026 during the Black Travel Awards Gala in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The 2027 summit will take place in Cotonou, Benin’s largest city. Previous editions were held in Rio de Janeiro in 2025 and Milwaukee in 2026.
Summit Organization and 2027 Focus
The summit is organized in partnership with Benin Tourism. Founded by Anita Moreau in 2019 in the United States, the Black Travel Summit aims to promote diversity and inclusion within the travel sector. The 2027 edition will focus on fostering international
exchange and business collaboration within the global Black travel community.
Black American Travel Market and Economic Context
Research by the Black Travel Alliance and MMGY Travel Intelligence reported that Black American leisure travelers made 184.12 million trips in 2023, generating approximately US$145 billion in spending. This economic footprint underlines the summit’s emphasis on expanding market opportunities and connections.
Initial discussions between Benin Tourism and summit organizers began during the 2025 event in Rio de Janeiro, leading to the selection of Benin as host. The 2027 summit aims to strengthen ties between Africa and the global Black diaspora, facilitating cross-border partnerships and market development.
