Ghana tourism visits reach 1.79 million in 2025 with growth in domestic and international travel

Ghana Registers 1.79M Domestic Tourism Visits in 2025

Ghana recorded 1,793,797 visits to 55 tourist sites in 2025, a 7 percent increase from 1,681,985 visits in 2024. Residents accounted for 84 percent of these visits, according to the Ghana Tourism Authority’s 2025 report published by 3News.

International arrivals numbered 1,306,962 in 2025, a 1.4 percent rise over 2024. These visitors stayed an average of approximately 13 nights, with business travel representing 31 percent of the international segment. Average expenditure per international visitor decreased from US$3,742.98 in 2024 to US$3,319.90 in 2025.

Tourism activity was concentrated in the Greater Accra, Central, Ashanti, and Eastern regions. The top 10 tourist

sites accounted for 1,377,588 visits or 77 percent of all visits. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park was the most visited with 302,523 visitors. Other key sites included Kakum National Park, Bunso Arboretum, Cape Coast Castle, Manhyia Palace Museum, Kumasi Zoo, Accra Zoo, Elmina Castle, Shai Hills Resource Reserve, and Aburi Botanical Garden.

The number of licensed tourism enterprises rose from 6,702 in 2024 to 7,109 in 2025. Travel-trade businesses increased by 18.6 percent, while entertainment and conference sectors expanded by 14.3 percent.

Special tourism events such as the Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival, PANAFEST, Emancipation celebrations, and December in GH attracted domestic

and international visitors, boosting demand for accommodation, transportation, food, entertainment, and hospitality services.

Ghana’s ports of Takoradi and Tema handled 18 cruise ship calls with 5,488 passengers in 2025. The report identifies cruise tourism as a growing segment with opportunities for expansion by linking passengers to local cultural and heritage attractions.

Visitor satisfaction ratings were high, with a 99 percent positive rating for Ghanaian friendliness and 98 percent positive ratings for airport facilities and formalities.

The 2025 Ghana Tourism Report, produced by the Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Department of the Ghana Tourism Authority, focused on the theme “Resilience and Sustainable

Growth.” It highlighted tourism sector progress and challenges, calling for attracting higher-spending visitors, developing premium tourism experiences, improving infrastructure and accessibility to emerging destinations, and emphasizing sustainable development that protects environmental and cultural resources while delivering economic and social benefits nationwide.
