Southwest Airlines encountered a system outage at its vendor Amadeus on the morning of October 9, 2026, leading to widespread operational interruptions. The network issue affected airline functions including reservation processing, boarding pass printing, and mobile app scanning.
Flight Delays and Cancellations Nationwide
By 9:15 a.m. Central Time, nearly 900 Southwest flights were delayed across the United States, with 43 flights cancelled, according to data from FlightAware. Dallas Love Field Airport, a major hub for Southwest, reported 56 flight delays and 7 cancellations during the same period.
Southwest Airlines’ Response to the Outage
During the outage, Southwest Airlines manually checked baggage and boarded passengers as system functions were restored. A Southwest
spokesperson said, “Southwest experienced a brief interruption due to a system outage at our vendor, Amadeus. The airline continued to check baggage and board flights manually while full functionality was restored. We apologize to our Customers for any inconvenience and are working to get them to their destinations as quickly as possible. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees.”
Lauren Rounds, spokesperson for the City of Dallas Department of Aviation, confirmed that Love Field’s operations team was informed about the intermittent internal network outage impacting boarding pass printing and mobile app scanning on
the morning of October 9.
