Southwest Airlines encountered a system outage on October 9, 2026, due to a brief interruption involving its vendor Amadeus. The outage disrupted Southwest’s internal network, affecting boarding pass printing and mobile app scanning across its network.

Flight Delays and Cancellations Nationwide and at Dallas Love Field

By 9:15 a.m. local time, nearly 900 Southwest flights had been delayed nationwide, while 43 were cancelled, according to flight tracking data from FlightAware. At Dallas Love Field airport, the airline’s operational hub, 56 delays and 7 cancellations were recorded within the same timeframe.

Operational Response During the Outage

Southwest Airlines maintained its operations by manually checking baggage and boarding passengers despite the disruptions to its automated systems. This

manual process was implemented while technical teams worked to restore full system functionality.

Official Statements and Vendor Partnership

A Southwest Airlines spokesperson confirmed the outage originated from their reservation system vendor, Amadeus, and described it as a brief system interruption. The spokesperson said, “The airline continued to check baggage and board flights manually while full functionality was restored.” They also added, “We apologize to our Customers for any inconvenience and are working to get them to their destinations as quickly as possible. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees.”
