Southwest Airlines Reports Nearly 900 Flights Delayed After Amadeus Outage

Southwest Airlines encountered a brief system outage on October 9, 2026, caused by its vendor Amadeus, resulting in widespread delays and cancellations across its network. The disruption affected the airline’s reservation and operational systems, leading to technical problems with boarding pass printing and mobile app scanning.

By 9:15 a.m. on October 9, nearly 900 Southwest flights were delayed nationwide, with 43 cancellations reported. At Dallas Love Field Airport, the airline’s main base, there were 56 delayed flights and seven cancellations as of the same time, according to flight tracking data from FlightAware.

During the outage, Southwest maintained manual check-in and

boarding procedures, including manual baggage checks, to continue operations while system functions were restored. The airline’s internal network interruptions impacted boarding processes, particularly at Dallas Love Field, as confirmed by the City of Dallas Department of Aviation.

A Southwest Airlines spokesperson acknowledged the brief interruption linked to the Amadeus outage, noted that manual processes were used to manage flights, and expressed apologies for the inconvenience caused. The spokesperson emphasized the airline’s focus on safety and its effort to resume normal service promptly. The City of Dallas Department of Aviation representative confirmed that Southwest experienced intermittent internal network outages Friday morning
