On October 9, 2026, Southwest Airlines experienced a system outage linked to its vendor Amadeus, resulting in nearly 900 flight delays and 43 cancellations across the United States by 9:15 a.m.

At Dallas Love Field, Southwest’s headquarters, a total of 56 flights were delayed and seven were canceled as of the same time. The City of Dallas’ Department of Aviation confirmed the disruption affected boarding pass printing and mobile app scanning.

Operational Impact on Dallas Love Field and Nationwide

The outage interrupted key reservation system functions including boarding pass issuance and mobile application scanning. During the disruption, Southwest manually processed baggage check-ins and boarded flights while working to

restore system functionality.

Lauren Rounds, spokesperson for the City of Dallas’ Department of Aviation, stated that Southwest informed Love Field’s operations team about the intermittent network outage that hindered boarding pass printing and app scanning on Friday morning.

Official Responses and Recovery Efforts

A Southwest Airlines spokesperson confirmed the outage originated from their vendor Amadeus and described it as a brief interruption. The airline apologized for the inconvenience and emphasized that safety remains their top priority.

“The airline continued to check baggage and board flights manually while full functionality was restored,” the spokesperson said. They added, “We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience and

are working to get them to their destinations as quickly as possible. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees.”
