Southwest Airlines encountered a brief operational outage on the morning of Friday, October 9, 2026, caused by an internal network disruption linked to its vendor Amadeus. The interruption affected the airline’s reservation system along with boarding pass printing and mobile app scanning processes.

As of 9:15 a.m. on October 9, nearly 900 Southwest flights were delayed across the United States, and 43 flights were canceled nationwide. At Dallas Love Field, where Southwest is headquartered, 56 flights faced delays and 7 were canceled during the outage.

During the disruption, Southwest Airlines manually checked baggage and boarded passengers while working to restore

full system functionality. In a statement, the airline said, “The airline continued to check baggage and board flights manually while full functionality was restored.”

Southwest Airlines also apologized for the inconvenience to customers, emphasizing their commitment to safety. The airline spokesperson said, “We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience and are working to get them to their destinations as quickly as possible. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees.”

Lauren Rounds, spokesperson for the City of Dallas’ Department of Aviation, confirmed that Southwest’s operations team reported the intermittent internal network outage affecting

various boarding procedures. Flight tracking data from FlightAware provided the delay and cancellation figures.

Amadeus Vendor Role

Amadeus serves as a key technology provider for Southwest Airlines, offering reservation system services and related products. The outage during the morning of October 9 was linked to Amadeus-related services, impacting the airline’s ability to process boarding passes and scan via the mobile app, causing widespread operational disruptions.
