The 16th Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) 2026 is taking place in Nairobi from October 6 to 8 with participation from over 350 exhibitors and approximately 5,000 tourism professionals. The event is among Africa’s largest tourism trade shows, held annually in Kenya’s capital.
Exhibitors and Business Scale
Kenyan hotels, tour operators, safari companies, airlines, and destination businesses are represented at MKTE 2026. These participants engage with international travel buyers through meetings and events spanning culture, food, adventure, sports, and meetings tourism sectors. Last year’s expo facilitated more than 10,000 business-to-business meetings, underscoring the commercial emphasis of this trade event.
Expanding Kenya’s Tourism Portfolio
Kenya is leveraging MKTE to
diversify its tourism beyond traditional safaris and beach experiences. The event promotes newer tourism segments like meetings and events, cultural tourism, food-related travel, adventure activities, and sports tourism as part of a broader strategy to increase visitor numbers and tourism revenue.
Focus on Sports Tourism Development
The country is intensifying efforts to attract visitors through sports tourism, capitalizing on Kenya’s globally recognized running heritage and high-altitude training conditions. This includes developments in the Eldoret and North Rift regions aiming to attract athletes and sports enthusiasts.
MKTE functions primarily as a commercial platform where Kenyan tourism stakeholders, including airlines and safari operators, negotiate contracts and expand
their reach to international travel buyers. The expo reflects Kenya’s evolving tourism strategy to broaden its market appeal and distribute visitor spending across more regions to encourage repeat visits.
