Icelandair will launch nonstop flights between St. Louis Lambert International Airport and Reykjavik starting May 14, 2027, operating four weekly flights through October 24, 2027. St. Louis will become Icelandair’s 16th U.S. destination, restoring nonstop service to Iceland for the city.

International Route Background and Existing European Service

The new route restores direct service to Iceland previously offered by WOW Air until 2019. St. Louis Lambert International Airport currently offers daily nonstop flights to London via British Airways and five weekly nonstop flights to Germany through Lufthansa, expanding international options.

Official Statements on the New Route

Icelandair Chief Commercial Officer Tómas Ingason said, “St. Louis has long been known as the gateway to

the West. Starting next May, it also becomes the gateway to Iceland and onward to Europe.” Brad Dean, CEO and president of Explore St. Louis, noted rising travel momentum, stating that adding capacity to Lambert International has been met with increased usage. Mayor Cara Spencer said, “Having a direct international flight to Iceland gives St. Louisans more choices of where to travel, where to go, and where to experience the world.” Both the mayor and county executive attended the announcement, emphasizing St. Louis as a global destination.

Tourism Growth and Marketing Initiatives

Hotel bookings in St. Louis and St. Louis County increased 12% over the

last year according to Amadeus data. Brad Dean added, “What we’ve seen in 2026 is when you add additional capacity to Lambert International Airport residents and businesses here take advantage of it, and visitors globally are truly ready to take advantage of it.” Explore St. Louis plans to promote the new Icelandair flights both domestically and abroad to support tourism growth and elevate St. Louis as a leisure and meetings destination.

Travelers at St. Louis Lambert International Airport will have improved nonstop access to Reykjavik starting in 2027, supplementing existing European service and enhancing direct connectivity for the Midwest to

Iceland and onward to Europe.
