Several Southeastern train services were cancelled in early October 2026 after drivers discovered bedbugs in their cabs on two trains. The infestation was first spotted on 22 September 2026 on mainline routes, prompting removal of affected trains from service for cleaning and treatment.

Affected Routes and Depot Details

The affected trains were based at the West Marina Depot in Hastings. These trains operate routes from London to Hastings via Battle, Tunbridge Wells, and Sevenoaks. No bedbugs were found on any High Speed 1 trains.

Cleaning Measures and Official Statements

Carriages on the two affected trains were locked to isolate passenger areas from drivers’ cabs for safety. The trains were taken

out of service to be cleaned, inspected, and treated if necessary. A Southeastern spokesperson said trains and stations are cleaned thoroughly so passengers can travel safely and with confidence.

Passenger Impact and Service Disruptions

Passengers experienced cancellations on Southeastern services on mainline routes on 2 and 3 October 2026. The infestation was contained to drivers’ cabs and did not extend to passenger areas, according to Southeastern.

Statements from Southeastern’s Head of Drivers

Oly Turner, head of drivers at Southeastern, said: “Cases have been contained to the drivers’ cabs in only two of our trains and no bed bugs have been identified in areas for passengers.” He added: “When we receive reports

such as these we check trains thoroughly before they are put back into service when given the all clear.” Turner also said, “We have a great relationship with our drivers, who have helped hugely in cooperating with us over these isolated incidents.”
