Hotel Indigo Raleigh has officially reopened in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, following a $36 million renovation of the historic round tower building on Hillsborough Street. Originally constructed in 1969, the structure received historic landmark status in 2015 and remains a prominent feature of the cityscape.
Design and Local Elements Preserved
The hotel contains 204 guest rooms within the iconic curved footprint of the original building. The renovation preserved the building’s distinctive mid-century-modern architecture while integrating elements inspired by Raleigh’s identity as the City of Oaks. Interior design by NYC-based firm Inc. features geometrical patterns, sculptural forms, and a curated collection of North Carolina artwork sourced
through nineDOTarts. The building’s curved footprint inspired the design approach focused on revitalizing downtown Raleigh’s landmark.
New Amenities Including Rooftop Lounge and Fitness Center
The property added a new rooftop bar and restaurant, High Ground Lounge, located on the 20th floor. The venue offers panoramic views of the Raleigh skyline and serves elevated Southern cuisine with craft cocktails. The lobby was transformed into a large, light-filled community space featuring a vintage Airstream courtyard coffee bar. The hotel also provides flexible meeting and event spaces, alongside a 1,500-square-foot fitness center equipped with TechnoGym machines. These enhancements aim to create a community gathering place integrating Raleigh culture.
Ownership, Management, and Brand Portfolio
Hotel Indigo Raleigh
is managed by Denver-based Sage Hospitality Group, which has over 40 years of hospitality development and management experience. The property is owned by Tidal Real Estate Partners, which acquired it in 2021. The hotel operates under the IHG Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio and is the first IHG Hotels & Resorts location in downtown Raleigh, joining IHG’s other North Carolina properties in Asheville and Winston-Salem.
Official Statements on Community Role
Carlos Faz, General Manager of Hotel Indigo Raleigh, stated, “This building has been part of Raleigh’s story for generations, and we’re incredibly proud to welcome guests and our neighbors back through its doors.” Daniel del Olmo,
president and CEO of Sage Hospitality Group, said, “Hotel Indigo Raleigh represents a meaningful investment in one of downtown Raleigh’s most recognizable landmarks and in its future as a place that brings people together.” The hotel aims to serve as a community gathering place for both travelers and locals.
