The 16th Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) was held at the Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum in Nairobi, Kenya, from October 6 to 8, 2026. The event brought together local and international travel and tourism stakeholders across East Africa under the theme ‘Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the future of Tourism.’ This theme emphasized technological advances impacting tourism management, destination exploration, and booking processes.
Akwaaba African Travel Market participated as an exhibitor for the second consecutive year at MKTE 2026. Akwaaba has a 22-year history of exhibiting at global travel fairs, including the World Travel Market in London,
EMITT Expo in Istanbul, ITB Berlin, and several African events like the Pearl of Africa Travel Expo in Uganda and the South Africa Travel Indaba. The market primarily promotes intra-African travel, connecting tourism professionals across more than 20 African countries and facilitating collaboration among tour operators, hospitality, and aviation sectors.
In 2022, Akwaaba received an excellence award from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation and the Nigerian Ministry of Tourism. Prominent attendees at Akwaaba events have included Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Gambian President Dawda Jawara. Aside from MKTE, Akwaaba organizes the annual Africa Travel
100 Awards, the African Medical Tourism Expo, and the West African Jollof Rice War, drawing over 3,000 tourism professionals from across the continent.
The Magical Kenya Travel Expo serves as a key platform connecting stakeholders in East Africa’s tourism sector. The 2026 edition reinforced Kenya’s position as a regional tourism hub by presenting new industry trends and fostering partnerships between local and international travel players, with Akwaaba’s involvement supporting the promotion of African tourism networks and intra-continental travel cooperation.
