According to FlightAware data, 74 departures have been canceled, representing 6% of scheduled departing flights, alongside 13 departures delayed. On the arrival side, 76 flights have been canceled, accounting for 6% of arrivals, while 114 arrivals are delayed, which is 10% of inbound traffic. Departing passengers should anticipate delays averaging nearly 80 minutes during morning operations.

Airline Travel Alerts and Waivers

American Airlines released a travel alert for all flights at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on October 1, allowing travelers to rebook without paying change fees or fare differences, provided they keep their original cabin class and rebook within the designated window. Similarly, Southwest Airlines issued a travel advisory for Dallas Love Field (DAL) on the same date, permitting passengers to reschedule or travel standby within 14 days of their original booking without additional charges. These waivers apply to flights to, from, or connecting through the Dallas area airports.

Delays at Dallas Love Field

Dallas Love Field is also affected by the severe weather, with FlightAware reporting average departure delays of about 54 minutes due to passing storm cells. Southwest Airlines’ advisory applies specifically to DAL, providing accommodations for impacted passengers through flexible rebooking and standby policies on October 1, 2026.

Severe Weather as Cause of Disruption

Thunderstorms in the Dallas region on the morning of October 1, 2026, are responsible for the extensive cancellations and delays at both Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field. The FAA’s implementation of the Ground Delay Program is a direct response to manage air traffic amid these adverse weather conditions affecting the

airports’ operations today.
