Logan International Airport experienced 520 flight delays and cancellations on Monday, September 28, 2026, due to an FAA-imposed ground delay in effect from 7:30 a.m. until 2:59 a.m. the following day. The Federal Aviation Administration’s ground delay aimed to manage airport traffic amid ongoing operational challenges.

Causes Behind Flight Disruptions

The combination of lingering nor’easter weather and runway and taxiway construction contributed to the disruptions. The nor’easter that struck southern New England over the previous weekend brought between 3 to over 7 inches of rainfall. High wind speeds on Monday forced use of a runway normally closed for construction, which lowered air traffic control

efficiency at Logan, according to Massport spokesperson Jennifer Mehigan. The FAA implemented the ground delay in part to handle the reduced operational capacity caused by these factors.

Impact on Travelers and Airport Operations

Inbound flights faced average delays of approximately five hours and 14 minutes Monday. Massport advised travelers to monitor their flight status closely before arriving at Logan International Airport to better anticipate ongoing traffic conditions and delays.
