The 16th edition of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo was held from October 6 to 8, 2026, at the Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum in Nairobi, Kenya. The East African tourism trade fair connected local and international travel and tourism stakeholders under the theme “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Tourism.” Among the key exhibitors was Akwaaba African Travel Market, participating for the second consecutive year.

Akwaaba’s Role in African Travel Promotion

Akwaaba African Travel Market has engaged in over 22 years of international travel fairs including events such as World Travel Market in London, EMITT in Istanbul, ITB Berlin, Pearl of

Africa Travel Expo in Uganda, Kilifair in Tanzania, Sanganai in Zimbabwe, and South Africa Travel Indaba. Since its first appearance at the Magical Kenya Travel Expo in 2025, Akwaaba has focused on promoting intra-African travel by linking African tour operators, hospitality, aviation, and travel professionals. The platform attracts more than 3,000 tourism professionals from over 20 African countries.

Expo Theme and Recognition for Akwaaba

The 2026 expo emphasized the impact of digital technologies and artificial intelligence on destination exploration, management, and booking processes. Akwaaba received an award of excellence in 2022 from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation alongside the Nigerian Ministry of Tourism. Notable attendees

at past Akwaaba events have included President Bola Tinubu, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Gambian President Dawda Jawara. Akwaaba also organizes annual events such as the Africa Travel 100 Awards, African Medical Tourism Expo, and the West African Jollof Rice War.

As a major tourism trade fair in East Africa, the Magical Kenya Travel Expo serves as a platform for showcasing tourism products and fostering regional collaboration. The 2026 edition highlighted efforts to advance Kenya’s tourism industry through technological innovations and enhanced connectivity among stakeholders.
