Royal Caribbean will implement a revised cancellation penalty schedule for its North America sailings effective October 11, 2026. The cruise line will simplify sailing length categories and penalty tiers as part of the update.
Revised Sailing Length Categories and Penalty Tiers
The current sailing lengths split into 1-4 nights, 5-14 nights, and 15 or more nights will change to 1-4 nights, 5-9 nights, and 10 or more nights. This adjustment moves guests booked on 10-14 night cruises from the middle penalty tier to the highest tier.
The scheduled 25% penalty window, which applies to cancellations made 89 to 75 days before embarkation for 5-14 night cruises and
119 to 75 days for sailings 15 nights or longer, will be removed for all sailing lengths. The cancellation penalty timeline for other windows has not been disclosed to change.
For current short sailings (1-4 nights), cancellation fees are waived if cancellations occur 75 days or more in advance, with penalties increasing from 50% at 74-61 days to 75% at 60-31 days, and no refund within 30 days. This structure remains intact except for the removal of the 25% tier in longer sailings.
Additionally, enforcement of third and fourth guest cancellation fees will become stricter, with no individual waivers. Royal
Caribbean’s system will automatically calculate the appropriate penalty percentage based on the booking’s penalty status at the time of cancellation.
Impact on Future Bookings
The new penalty policies will apply to all North America sailings—both new and existing deployments—starting October 11, 2026. Bookings for certain 2028 and 2029 deployments in Alaska, Hawaii, Pacific Coastal, and Transpacific regions will immediately follow the updated rules when bookings open September 29, 2026.
Royal Caribbean’s travel partner notification email states, “All new Alaska, Hawaii, Pacific Coastal, and Transpacific 2028 sailings opening tomorrow, September 29, 2026, will be subject to this new cancellation penalty structure.”

The update applies exclusively to North America sailings for now. Cancellation penalty policies for European or other international cruises may differ and could be revised separately in the future.
