Boston Logan International Airport experienced significant flight disruptions on September 29, 2026, with over 230 flights delayed and 43 canceled as of 3:10 p.m., according to FlightAware data.

The Federal Aviation Administration implemented a ground delay at Logan starting at noon on September 29, extending until 1:59 a.m. on September 30, to manage arrivals amid ongoing runway construction. Inbound flights faced an average delay of 86 minutes on September 29. These operational difficulties followed a severe nor’easter storm that swept through New England over the weekend and into Monday, which coupled with construction, had already caused hundreds of cancellations and

delays.

FAA Ground Delay and Traveler Advisories

The FAA’s ground delay procedure held departing aircraft at their origin airports to space out arrivals at Logan and reduce congestion on its runways. Massport, the authority operating Logan International, urged travelers to verify their flight status before traveling to the airport, emphasizing that the combination of weather and runway maintenance contributed to the disruptions. On the previous day, September 28, inbound flights were delayed by more than five hours on average.

Runway Construction Schedule

Runway improvements at Logan International Airport are currently underway and are expected to be completed by November 2026. The construction is a primary factor in the ongoing

delays and cancellations, as it reduces runway availability and capacity during peak traffic periods.
