The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) imposed a ground stop on Sunday, September 27, 2026, affecting all flights heading to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. The ground stop was active from 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time and applied to departures bound for Las Vegas from several air traffic control centers nationwide.

In addition to the ground stop, the FAA implemented a ground delay program for arrivals at Harry Reid International Airport starting at 1:52 p.m. due to strong winds in the area. This delay program is set to remain in effect until 11:59 p.m., causing arriving

flights to experience average delays of approximately 72 minutes.

Thunderstorms Prompt FAA to Halt and Delay Flights

The FAA’s ground stop and ground delay program were issued in response to thunderstorms impacting the region. Authorities noted a medium possibility that the ground stop could be extended beyond the initially scheduled end time of 4:15 p.m. PDT. These weather conditions temporarily suspended arrivals and contributed to significant delays for inbound flights at Harry Reid International Airport.
