The storm caused one fatality in New York
City when a 56-year-old New York City Housing Authority worker was struck by a falling tree in Brooklyn around 5:40 pm on Saturday. He was taken to Brookdale University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. High winds and wet ground caused numerous fallen trees and downed power lines, leading to widespread electricity outages across the New York metropolitan area.
Severe coastal flooding occurred along the Jersey Shore with major flooding reported, and the Massachusetts coast experienced moderate flooding. Flooding was driven by a combination of tidal waves, storm rainfall, and onshore winds pushing seawater inland. Authorities warned residents to avoid
shorelines due to dangerous rip currents and waves that persisted after the storm center moved away. Road travel in coastal areas was disrupted by flooding, fallen trees, and downed power lines.
The Federal Aviation Administration advised travelers to check with airlines for updated flight information before going to airports. Travel disruptions included hundreds of flight cancellations and thousands of delays across the US Northeast. Travelers faced hazards including dangerous coastal conditions and unexpected waves even after the storm subsided.
