Delta Air Lines will launch new nonstop transatlantic flights connecting Detroit Metropolitan Airport to Athens starting June 8, 2027, with thrice-weekly service through October 28, 2027. On May 7, 2027, Delta will also begin four-times-weekly flights between Boston Logan International Airport and Venice, operating through October 29, 2027. These additions join the previously announced daily Austin to Paris route launching March 27, 2027.
New flights from Detroit to Athens will operate on Airbus A330-200 widebody aircraft, while Boston to Venice service will use Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Delta is also extending its European travel season with early spring and extended fall
operations on routes including Minneapolis-St. Paul to Rome starting early March 2027, Seattle to Rome from April 2027, and earlier resumption of JFK flights to Catania, Porto, Prague, and Copenhagen. Service from Boston and Seattle to Barcelona, and Atlanta to Edinburgh, will also start earlier in the season. Additionally, Boston to Milan service will increase to daily flights in 2027, and Detroit-Rome and JFK-Copenhagen will operate daily upon resumption. Cincinnati to Paris will continue thrice weekly from January through March 2027.

Jeff Arinder, Delta’s Vice President of International Network Planning, said the new flights offer customers increased choice, flexibility, and
travel timing options. He highlighted the addition of new European destinations from Detroit and Boston, and Austin’s emergence as a new gateway to Europe. Sharon Williams, Executive Director of Aviation at Massport, noted that Venice’s addition responds to strong demand for travel to Italy from New England, enhancing cultural and tourism opportunities.
Chad Newton, CEO of Wayne County Airport Authority, emphasized that the Detroit-Athens nonstop service provides Southeast Michigan travelers with direct access to Athens for the first time, and recognized Delta’s investment in Detroit as beneficial to regional business and cultural ties.
Delta’s European Network Expansion
The new routes will integrate with Delta’s
existing transatlantic network and leverage partnerships with Air France, KLM, Virgin Atlantic, and others. This collaboration expands customer access to hundreds of European destinations beyond Delta’s nonstop flights. Boston remains Delta’s closest U.S. hub to Europe and its leading carrier there, positioning it as a critical gateway to the continent.
Delta’s service from Boston now includes 13 unique long-haul summer destinations, with Venice becoming the airline’s 12th continental European destination from the city and its third U.S. gateway to Venice. From Detroit, Athens represents the 12th unique long-haul summer destination and seventh continental European destination. Detroit becomes Delta’s fourth U.S.
gateway to Athens.
Capacity and Frequency
Delta will offer more than 30,000 nonstop weekly seats to Italy from the U.S. in 2027 with up to 17 peak-day departures. This includes expanded daily service on Boston-Milan and Detroit-Rome routes. Seasonal service extensions and increased frequencies support broader travel windows for customers flying to Europe.
The Austin-Paris daily summer service uses Airbus A330-900neo aircraft and provides one-stop access to nearly 70 European, Indian, and African destinations through Delta’s partnership with Air France-KLM.
