Avelo Airlines will expand its operations at McKinney National Airport with the launch of four new routes in December 2026 and the addition of a third Boeing 737-800 aircraft based at the airport. The new destinations include Denver International Airport, Atlanta-Hartsfield Jackson International Airport, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, and Nashville International Airport. Fares for these routes will start at $99 and include a free checked bag.
Flight Schedules for New Destinations
Flights to Denver and Atlanta will begin on December 16, 2026, with four weekly departures on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Services to New Orleans and Nashville will commence the following day,
December 17, operating twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays. The new routes follow initial Avelo flights from McKinney National Airport starting on November 11, 2026, which will include service to Las Vegas and four Florida cities.
FAA Certification and Airport Developments
McKinney National Airport recently received operating certification from the Federal Aviation Administration, allowing Avelo to base the third 737-800 aircraft at the facility. Construction on a new passenger terminal is nearing completion and remains on schedule. Ken Carley, director of McKinney Airport, noted the terminal’s timely completion and the local community’s anticipation for easier travel from their hometown airport during the holiday season and
beyond.
Avelo’s Market Position and Growth
Avelo operates as a low-cost carrier offering base fares with paid add-ons such as baggage and seat selection, differentiating itself from larger North Texas airlines like Southwest and American. The budget airline segment has been challenged by rising fuel costs and the collapse of Spirit Airlines earlier in 2026. Andrew Levy, Avelo’s CEO, said that the strong booking response from North Texas has justified the route expansion and third aircraft base, emphasizing the combination of low fares, small airport convenience, and reliable on-time performance. Levy highlighted Avelo’s commitment to Collin County, one of the fastest-growing regions in the country.
