Foreign tourist arrivals in Albania reached 9,443,700 in the first eight months of 2026, marking a 5.3% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to data published by INSTAT on September 25.
In August 2026, approximately 2.43 million foreign visitors entered Albania, a 2% rise from 2.38 million recorded in August 2025. INSTAT described this as the lowest growth rate for August since the pandemic. The latest report omitted data on tourists’ countries of origin due to discrepancies found in figures from government sources.
Recent trends show tourists in Albania are opting for shorter stays and increasingly using
private apartments, homes, and self-catering options instead of traditional accommodations. This shift aligns with patterns of last-minute bookings and more cautious spending, especially among visitors from key European markets.
Albanian tourism operators have reported sustained interest from groups from Poland, the Czech Republic, and France. They anticipate that overall visitor growth for the full year 2026 will be similar to 2025. Operators also noted an increase in guaranteed contracts for the upcoming year, both in volume and revenue, but have highlighted that rising visitor numbers do not directly imply higher sector revenues.
In 2025, Albania welcomed 12.47 million foreign tourists,
representing a 6.6% increase compared to 2024. The country’s population was estimated at 2.4 million in 2023, according to the latest official statistics.
The tourism season for 2026 is expected to extend through the first ten days of October, based on current bookings. Final assessments of the sector’s revenue impact will be available after the season ends.
