A powerful nor’easter swept across the US East Coast from Washington, D.C. to Maine on September 26, causing widespread flooding, power outages, and travel disruptions. More than 68,000 homes and businesses in New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania were without electricity by Saturday evening. Earlier in the day, outages affected more than 119,000 customers. Flight Disruptions and Utility Restoration
FlightAware reported a total of 439 flight cancellations and 2,459 delays across US airports by Saturday evening due to the nor’easter. The storm also caused the postponement of AC/DC’s concert at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, rescheduled to October 2. Utility companies reported significant damage: PSEG Long Island suffered severe weather impacts affecting more than 13,000 customers with downed trees and power lines across Long Island and the Rockaways. Meanwhile, Central Hudson Gas & Electric deployed crews to restore power to over 19,000 homes and businesses in
parts of New York state, focusing on Ulster County, with repairs expected to continue into Sunday.
Ongoing Weather Threats and Emergency Measures
The US National Weather Service issued warnings that the nor’easter would continue through Monday, with threats including coastal flooding, dangerous rip currents, strong wind gusts, and heavy rainfall across the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions. Significant flooding affected parts of New Jersey from Bergen County to Cape May County, prompting voluntary evacuation notices in some Jersey Shore communities. Emergency crews remain active in power restoration and flood response as conditions persist.
