More than 68,000 households and businesses remained without electricity by Saturday evening. Flooding affected multiple areas, notably in New Jersey from Bergen County south to Cape May County.
Flight Cancellations and Emergency Declarations
FlightAware reported 439 flight cancellations and 2,459 flight delays across US airports by Saturday evening, primarily in the Northeast region due to the storm. Governors of New York and New Jersey declared states of emergency on Friday in counties forecast to suffer the worst conditions, including New
York City. Connecticut activated its Emergency Operations Center to support storm response efforts.
Utility Restoration Efforts Amid Severe Weather
Power outages exceeded 119,000 earlier Saturday but had decreased to over 68,000 by evening across the affected states. New York accounted for over 31,000 outages, while Connecticut and New Jersey each reported more than 12,000 customers without power. In Long Island and the Rockaways, PSEG Long Island was impacted by strong winds that downed trees and power lines affecting over 13,000 customers; the utility restored electricity to more than 45,000 customers since Friday morning. Central Hudson Gas & Electric focused repair crews in Ulster County, New York,
working to restore power to over 19,000 homes and businesses, with restoration efforts continuing into Sunday.
Travel and Event Disruptions
The storm led to travel disruptions including the postponement of AC/DC’s concert at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, originally scheduled for September 25. The event was rescheduled to October 2 due to the weather. Several Jersey Shore communities issued voluntary evacuation notices because of flood risks. The US National Weather Service forecast the nor’easter would continue producing coastal flooding, strong wind gusts, hazardous rip currents, and heavy rain across Mid-Atlantic and New England regions through Monday.
