Delta Air Lines will launch nonstop flights from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport to Athens and from Boston Logan International Airport to Venice starting in 2027. These routes complement Delta’s previously announced daily service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Paris, marking a substantial expansion in the airline’s transatlantic network.
Details of New Routes and Aircraft
The Boston to Venice service will operate four times weekly between May 7 and October 29, 2027, using Airbus A330-300 aircraft. The widebody jets will feature Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort, and Delta Main cabins. Detroit to Athens flights will begin June 8, 2027, running thrice weekly through October
28 with Airbus A330-200 aircraft outfitted with the same cabin configurations. Meanwhile, the Austin to Paris route will provide daily nonstop service starting March 27, 2027, aboard an Airbus A330-900neo.
Extension of Transatlantic Season and Route Enhancements
Delta is lengthening its European seasonal schedules in 2027 to offer earlier spring and later fall travel opportunities. Seasonal services from Minneapolis-St. Paul and Detroit to Rome will start in early March, followed by Seattle-Rome service in April. New York-JFK flights to Catania, Porto, Prague, and Copenhagen, plus Boston and Seattle services to Barcelona and Atlanta-Edinburgh connections, will also begin earlier. Detroit-Rome and New York-JFK-Copenhagen will operate daily upon resumption,
and Cincinnati-Paris will continue thrice weekly from January to March.
Boston and Detroit as Strategic European Gateways
Venice becomes Delta’s 13th unique long-haul destination from Boston during peak summer and the 12th in continental Europe. Boston will offer the Venice route alongside daily flights to Milan starting in 2027, reinforcing its position as Delta’s closest U.S. hub to Europe and adding nearly 20 U.S. connecting destinations. Detroit’s new Athens flight represents the city’s 12th long-haul destination and fourth gateway to Greece during peak season, offering direct connections to over 40 U.S. destinations through the Detroit hub.

Delta’s alliances with Air France, KLM, Virgin Atlantic, and other carriers provide customers access to hundreds of European destinations via coordinated networks. This expansion adds substantial nonstop
options, increasing available seats. For instance, Delta offers over 30,000 nonstop weekly seats to Italy from the United States and up to 17 peak-day departures from U.S. cities to Italy alone.
Passengers from Detroit and Boston will gain new direct flights to European cities, while travelers from Austin will access nearly 70 European, Indian, and African destinations through the Paris hub. The extended seasonal schedules afford more travel flexibility, including earlier offers in spring and prolonged fall and winter availability.
