A strong Nor’easter swept the US East Coast from Washington, D.C., to Maine on Saturday, September 26, 2026, forcing airlines to cancel 445 flights and delaying over 3,000 others. PowerOutage.com reported that more than 100,000 homes and businesses lost electricity earlier, with over 73,000 still without power as of 9:37 p.m. ET.
Connecticut and New York each had more than 20,000 customers without electricity late Saturday evening. Earlier in the day, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey combined experienced upwards of 100,000 outages. Flooding was reported across New Jersey from Bergen County in the north to Cape May County
in the south. Some Jersey Shore communities issued voluntary evacuations due to rising water levels.
FlightAware tracked a total of 445 flight cancellations and 3,016 delays involving U.S. airports by 9:50 p.m. ET Saturday. The concert by rock band AC/DC at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, initially scheduled for Friday, September 25, was postponed to October 2 because of the hazardous weather conditions.
The governors of New York and New Jersey declared states of emergency Friday for counties forecasted to be hardest hit, including New York City. Connecticut’s governor activated the state’s Emergency Operations Center for coordinated response
efforts. The U.S. National Weather Service predicted the Nor’easter would continue to bring coastal flooding, rip currents, strong wind gusts, and heavy rain through Monday, September 28, 2026.
