A powerful nor’easter impacted the US East Coast from Washington, D.C. to Maine on Saturday, September 26, 2026, causing 445 flight cancellations and delaying over 3,000 flights as of 9:50 p.m. Eastern Time. At the peak of the storm, more than 100,000 homes and businesses lost power across multiple states, according to data tracked by PowerOutage.com.
As of 9:37 p.m. ET, over 73,000 households and businesses remained without electricity in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania. New York and Connecticut each reported more than 20,000 outages individually. Earlier in the day, a combined total of more
than 100,000 power outages were recorded across Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
Flooding incidents were reported in New Jersey extending from Bergen County in the north down to Cape May County in the south. Some communities along the Jersey Shore implemented voluntary evacuation orders. The severe weather also affected scheduled events; AC/DC’s rock concert slated for September 25, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, was postponed to October 2, 2026.
Emergency declarations and weather warnings
States of emergency were declared on September 25, 2026, by the governors of New York and New Jersey for counties expected to endure the worst
impacts of the nor’easter, including New York City. Connecticut’s governor activated the state Emergency Operations Center to coordinate response efforts. The US National Weather Service warned the storm would continue to bring coastal flooding, rip currents, strong wind gusts, and heavy rainfall throughout the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions through Monday.
Travel disruptions and event postponements
FlightAware reported that, as of 9:50 p.m. ET on Saturday, 445 flights involving US airports had been canceled with an additional 3,016 delayed. These disruptions affected airports along the US Northeast corridor. Additionally, the postponement of the AC/DC concert at MetLife Stadium disrupted plans for attendees scheduled to be
at the venue on September 25.
