Royal Caribbean has agreed to acquire a 50% equity stake in Sandals Resorts for $3 billion, valuing the Caribbean resort operator at $6 billion. The announcement was made on Wednesday, September 22, 2026.

Royal Caribbean Diversifies Beyond Cruises

The transaction comes as Royal Caribbean seeks to diversify beyond its traditional cruise operations to establish a leading position in the overall vacation market. The company’s shares have declined roughly 25% over the past year amid weaker demand for European sailings and lowered revenue forecasts. Royal Caribbean currently manages several private destinations for cruise passengers but has focused on expanding its land-based vacation offerings.

Sandals and Beaches Properties Across the Caribbean

Sandals Resorts and

its Beaches brand operate more than a dozen properties throughout the Caribbean, providing Royal Caribbean with a significant presence in the all-inclusive resort segment. The acquisition is expected to close early in 2027. Industry reports from Financial Times and CNBC had indicated ongoing discussions between the two companies prior to the deal’s confirmation.
