No cruise liner cancellations were recorded in the Isles of Scilly during the 2026 season, with 46 cruise liners visiting and carrying 19,000 passengers. The last cruise liner arrival of the season was Fred Olsen’s Bolette on a Tuesday.

The Isles of Scilly have unique geography and two dedicated anchorage spots providing shelter from poor weather conditions. Ships used real-time weather information from port authorities rather than relying solely on forecasts, allowing better-informed decisions that prevented cancellations.
Navigating Challenging Weather Conditions
In May 2026, one of the smaller cruise ships called at the Isles despite forecast wind speeds of more than 20 knots and
predicted swell over four metres. According to Tom Jackman, managing director of Scillonian Marine Consultants, the vessel anchored in a position where there was almost no swell, and the visit went ahead as planned.
Official Statements on Tourism Importance and Cruise Success
The Council of the Isles of Scilly stated tourism is critical to the archipelago’s economy and that welcoming every cruise liner supported employment and businesses. They noted the absence of cancellations was particularly good news during a year when weather disrupted other travel to and from the islands.
Tom Jackman described the 100% record for cruise liners as “a fantastic achievement” and said, “Cruises are a
hugely important part of our visitor economy and we hope this success encourages more cruise lines to consider our beautiful islands in future.”
