Guangdong province is launching a cultural and tourism subsidies campaign worth 30 million yuan ($4.2 million) for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. The Guangdong provincial culture and tourism department announced the campaign runs from the Friday before September 9, 2026, through October 31, 2026, aiming to boost tourism spending during the autumn peak season.

The program offers consumption vouchers with a maximum discount of 500 yuan per transaction. Subsidies apply to hotels, homestays, scenic-spot tickets, tour packages, cruise and yacht trips, family tours, study tours, and senior-friendly wellness travel. It targets residents and visitors from the Chinese mainland,

overseas travelers, and residents of Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.

In 2025, Guangdong allocated 20 million yuan for a similar subsidy campaign that generated more than eight times its value in tourism consumption. During the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, Guangdong recorded 61.32 billion yuan in tourism revenue, up 14.2 percent year-on-year, and received 65.18 million tourist arrivals.

The Guangdong provincial culture and tourism department manages both online and offline promotions. The government aims to leverage convenient high-speed rail and road links connecting cities including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Foshan to Hong Kong and Macao, encouraging

short trips. This infrastructure supports increased travel and cross-boundary tourism during the campaign period, contributing to continued recovery and growth of Guangdong’s tourism industry.
