All flights scheduled for the evening of September 3, 2026, at Guernsey Airport were cancelled because of persistent fog that severely reduced visibility, making takeoffs and landings unsafe. Inbound flights during Thursday afternoon were diverted to UK airports due to the same conditions.
Passenger Support and Coordination Efforts
Guernsey Airport collaborated with the States of Guernsey, Guernsey Ports, and Visit Guernsey to provide assistance to affected passengers. This included securing overnight accommodations and rescheduling flights to manage the disruption. Emergency contingency plans were activated to support passengers who could not find lodging.
Passengers booked for flights on the evening of September 3 were fully impacted
by cancellations. Travelers faced altered itineraries due to inbound diversions and were advised to allot extra time for their journeys given ongoing disruptions. Support services were expanded to address the high demand for accommodation and assistance.
Guernsey Airport director Richard Thomasson acknowledged the difficulties faced by passengers, stating, “We recognise that today’s fog disruption will be frustrating for passengers and we would like to thank them for their patience and understanding.” He emphasized that passenger support remains the airport’s top priority while managing the effects of adverse weather.
The disruptions coincided with an elevated volume of visitors, placing significant pressure
on local accommodation capacity. This surge combined with weather delays has intensified logistical challenges for the airport and associated agencies.
