On 31 August 2026, Sri Lanka officially launched the consultancies for its Global Promotional Campaign Road Map and National Tourism Strategic Plan covering 2026 to 2030. The event was held at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) and was organized by the Tourism Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism with support from the World Bank’s Grant Facility for Project Preparation (GFPP). The launch included a press briefing highlighting the initiative’s goals.

Tourism Growth Targets for 2026 and 2027

The strategic plan sets concrete goals, targeting 2.7 million tourist arrivals and $4.2 billion in revenue for

2026. For 2027, the target increases to over 3 million tourist arrivals with tourism income rising to $5 billion. The roadmap also outlines a long-term ambition to increase tourism earnings to $10 billion by 2030, emphasizing sustained sector growth over the five-year period.

Purpose and Support of the Tourism Roadmap

The roadmap and consultancy appointments aim to establish a structured framework for international promotion and outline a five-year strategic direction to shift Sri Lanka’s tourism into a high-growth sector model. This initiative is financially supported by the World Bank’s Grant Facility for Project Preparation (GFPP), facilitating strategic investments and capacity building for the transformation of the country’s

tourism industry.
