Sri Lanka launched consultancies for its Global Promotional Campaign Road Map and National Tourism Strategic Plan (2026–2030) on August 31, 2026. The event and press briefing were held at the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) auditorium. The initiatives are supported by the World Bank’s Grant Facility for Project Preparation (GFPP) and were officially launched by the Tourism Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.
Tourism Targets and Strategic Framework
The dual initiatives set a framework for international promotion and outline a five-year strategic plan to transition Sri Lanka’s tourism sector into a high-growth model. The government aims
to attract 2.7 million tourists and generate $4.2 billion in revenue in 2026. For 2027, targets increase to over 3 million tourist arrivals and $5 billion in revenue. Sri Lanka’s long-term goal is to achieve $10 billion in tourism earnings by 2030, demonstrating a commitment to significantly expanding the sector’s economic contribution.
