Vietnam’s tourism sector is intensifying preparations for the National Day holiday occurring in late August and early September 2026. Destinations including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Con Dao, and Phu Quoc are launching new tourism products and activities to accommodate a surge in travelers, according to the Traveloka SEA Index released on August 11. Travel trends show increasing interest in cultural tourism, local cuisines, festivals, museums, craft villages, and community events, prompting businesses to refresh their offerings and extend visitor engagement.
Scheduled Cultural and Heritage Events During National Day
Cultural and artistic events planned during the holiday include the “Flag Hat” version of the “Hoi An
Memories” show running from August 26 to September 2 in Da Nang. Phu Quoc will host “The Memory of Flowers” exhibition, and Thanh Hoa province will organize the Sam Son Kite Festival 2026 from August 30 to September 1. Moc Chau Culture and Tourism Week will be held from August 27 to September 5, featuring a variety of cultural and community-based activities. These events coincide with Vietnam’s commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, fostering demand for tourism products linked to heritage and revolutionary history, as promoted by the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).
Visitor Growth and Revenue Trends in Hanoi
Hanoi recorded 18.01 million visitors in the first half of 2026, marking a 15.7% year-on-year increase. International arrivals in the capital rose by 26.8% during the same period, contributing to a 19.1% increase in tourism revenue. On July 7, 2026, Hanoi welcomed its five-millionth international visitor of the year, confirming sustained growth in the city’s tourism sector.
Tourism Infrastructure and Service Enhancements in Ninh Binh
The northern province of Ninh Binh is upgrading its tourism infrastructure in preparation for the National Day holiday. New attractions, such as blooming water lilies at Tam Coc-Bich Dong, complement improvements in landscape management, environmental sanitation, increased staffing, and enhanced directional signage. Ninh
Binh, home to over 70 tourism sites and approximately 1,500 accommodation establishments with about 23,000 rooms, is also preparing additional operational resources to meet rising visitor demand.
VNAT Directives on Safety, Security, and Service Quality
The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism has instructed tourism authorities nationwide to maintain visitor safety and service quality during the holiday and the year-end peak period. Local agencies are required to coordinate with police, health, and transport bodies to ensure public order, traffic safety, fire prevention, and natural disaster response. Visitor flows at major attractions will be regulated to prevent overcrowding. Tourism service providers must enhance food safety, fire prevention, environmental protection, and
overall service standards. Strict enforcement of transparent pricing policies is mandated, with accommodation providers and operators having to display room rates, service charges, surcharges, promotions, and cancellation policies clearly.
Traveler Advisories and Tour Regulations
Tourists are advised to exercise caution with self-organized tours or programs promoted by individuals, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and key opinion customers (KOCs) that may not be officially licensed. The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism encourages travelers to select tours provided by licensed companies and to purchase travel insurance to mitigate risks during the holiday period.
National Tourism Performance and Targets for 2026
Vietnam recorded nearly 12.3 million international visitors in the first six months of 2026, representing
a 14.9% increase year-on-year. The country aims to welcome 25 million international visitors and 150 million domestic tourists throughout 2026, targeting tourism revenue of approximately 1.125 quadrillion VND (about 43 billion USD).
Preparations Across Major Destinations
Alongside Hanoi and Ninh Binh, other key destinations including Sa Pa, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc are enhancing infrastructure, revitalizing tourism products, and reinforcing measures to secure safety, improve environmental sanitation, and elevate service quality ahead of the National Day holiday and subsequent year-end peak travel period.
