Vietnam’s tourism sector is intensifying preparations for the National Day holiday period from August 26 to September 5 by launching new attractions and enhancing safety and service standards across major destinations. According to the Traveloka SEA Index released on August 11, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Con Dao, and Phu Quoc ranked as the five most popular destinations booked by Vietnamese travelers for both the second quarter and the National Day holiday.
Tourist preferences are shifting toward culture, cuisine, arts, festivals, museums, craft villages, and community-focused experiences, moving beyond traditional sightseeing and resort stays. To correspond with this
trend, tourism providers and destinations are renewing their product offerings and extending visitor stays to increase experience value.
Scheduled Cultural and Artistic Events
Several cultural events are planned during the National Day holiday. Da Nang will host the “Hoi An Memories” show featuring the “Flag Hat” version from August 26 to September 2. Phu Quoc will present “The Memory of Flowers” exhibition, while Thanh Hoa province will hold the Sam Son Kite Festival from August 30 to September 1. Moc Chau will conduct the Culture and Tourism Week from August 27 to September 5, offering arts and community activities.
Additional commemorative activities focus on the
81st anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, with heritage tours and historical events arranged nationwide to highlight Vietnam’s revolutionary traditions.
Visitor Growth and Destination Preparations
Hanoi led visitor growth in the first half of 2026, receiving 18.01 million travelers—a 15.7% increase year-on-year—with a 26.8% rise in international arrivals and a 19.1% hike in tourism revenue. The city welcomed its five-millionth international visitor on July 7 this year.
Ninh Binh province is enhancing visitor experiences ahead of the holiday at Tam Coc-Bich Dong, adding attractions like blooming water lilies, improved landscaping, more staff, and additional directional signs. The province boasts over 70 tourism sites
and approximately 1,500 accommodation establishments offering around 23,000 rooms. Additional staff and supplies are being prepared to accommodate expected visitor numbers during the holiday.
Other major destinations such as Sa Pa, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc are also upgrading infrastructure and boosting security, sanitation, and service quality measures for the holiday peak.
VNAT Guidelines for Safety and Service Quality
The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism has instructed local authorities to organize commemorative and heritage tours while enforcing visitor safety, public order, and quality services during the National Day holiday. Authorities are coordinating with police, health, and transport agencies to maintain traffic safety, fire prevention, and
natural disaster responses.
Visitor flows at popular sites will be regulated to prevent overcrowding. Tourism businesses must ensure transparent pricing by clearly displaying room rates, service charges, surcharges, promotions, and refund or cancellation policies. Providers are obligated to deliver services at advertised prices and quality.
VNAT also cautions tourists against self-organized or influencer-promoted tours that might lack proper licensing and recommends choosing licensed travel operators with travel insurance coverage.
Tourism Growth Targets for 2026
International visitor arrivals to Vietnam reached nearly 12.3 million in the first six months of 2026, a 14.9% increase compared to the previous year. The sector aims to attract 25 million
international visitors and 150 million domestic tourists in 2026, targeting tourism revenue of approximately 1.125 quadrillion VND (43 billion USD) by year-end, reflecting sustained industry growth.
