The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) on Thursday, August 20, 2026. The ground stop temporarily halted flight operations at the airport.

The ground stop was caused by severe weather conditions, including tornado and severe thunderstorm watches for the District of Columbia area (DMV area). The National Capital Region experienced severe weather leading to air traffic disruptions at major regional airports including BWI.
