The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop for Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) on August 20, 2026, in response to severe weather conditions affecting the area.
This ground stop resulted in flight delays and cancellations at BWI, affecting passenger travel throughout the day as airlines complied with the FAA directive.
Tornado and severe thunderstorm watches were issued for the Washington D.C. metropolitan area (DMV area) on the same day. A similar ground stop at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) was implemented but has since been lifted.
