The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop for Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) on Thursday, August 20, 2026, due to severe weather conditions in the region.

Travelers at BWI are experiencing flight delays and cancellations as the FAA restricts departures and arrivals to ensure safety. On the same day, a ground stop was also put in place at Washington National Airport (DCA) but has since been lifted. Tornado and severe thunderstorm watches remain active across the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area, prompting the FAA’s safety measures.
