The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) on August 20, 2026, due to severe weather conditions.

Flight cancellations and delays followed as airlines complied with the directive to suspend departures temporarily. Earlier, a ground stop had been issued at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) but was lifted after the severe weather passed. Tornado and severe thunderstorm watches were in effect for the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area during the disruptions.
