The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued ground stops on August 20, 2026, at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). The stops temporarily halted operations at both airports.
Severe weather, including tornado and severe thunderstorm watches, was active across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) region on the same day. These conditions prompted the FAA to restrict air traffic for safety reasons.
Flight delays and cancellations occurred as a result of the ground stops and weather conditions at BWI and DCA. While operations at DCA have resumed, disruptions at BWI remained
during the period covered.
