The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) imposed a ground stop at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) on Thursday, August 20, 2026, in response to severe weather conditions. During the same day, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) also experienced a ground stop that has since been lifted.
Severe weather threats, including tornado and severe thunderstorm watches, were active across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) region. The continuing ground stop at BWI has led to multiple flight delays and cancellations, affecting operations at the airport.
