The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop at Denver International Airport beginning at 3:25 p.m. on Friday, lasting until 6:30 p.m., in response to thunderstorms in the area. In addition, a ground delay started at 3 p.m. and is expected to stay in effect until midnight.
Flight Cancellations and Delays
During this weather event, Denver International Airport experienced more than 100 flight cancellations. The FAA reported the ground delay caused average delays of approximately 104 minutes for departing flights.
Thunderstorms Cause Operational Restrictions
The ground stop and delay were enforced due to thunderstorms impacting the Front Range region around Denver. The 11 Alert Weather Team indicated
storms would persist near the airport through 10 p.m. Friday and continue overnight.
