Key Canadian airlines including Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing, Flair Airlines, and Canada Jetlines have increased their direct airlift capacity to Jamaica by 22% for 2026. This expansion exceeds expectations set by the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) under the direction of Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett and JTB leaders Donovan White and Angella Bennett. Their coordinated efforts
target the Canadian market as a central driver for tourism growth.
Infrastructure Investments Supporting Arrival Increases
Jamaica is investing $180 million in expanding Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. The project includes wider runways to accommodate larger aircraft, upgraded digital immigration halls for faster processing, and expanded retail zones. This infrastructure project aims to manage the heightened passenger flow and improve the arrival experience.
Additionally, Jamaica plans to add 4,200 hotel rooms by 2027 to handle the increased demand. A flagship development is the $350 million Princess Hotels mega-resort currently under construction in Hanover parish, which will contribute significantly to room capacity and tourism offerings
in the region.

The influx of Canadian visitors is projected to generate approximately US$750 million in 2026, bolstering Jamaica’s tourism-driven economy. The government’s strategy includes directing visitor spending toward local farms, family-run businesses, and municipal services to distribute economic benefits across the island’s fourteen parishes.
This targeted approach supports job creation in both the construction and hospitality sectors while funding infrastructure such as local water supply systems. It also reduces economic isolation in communities by encouraging participation in the expanding visitor economy.
