The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop at Denver International Airport beginning at 3:25 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, due to severe thunderstorms in the Front Range area. The ground stop was expected to remain in effect until 6:30 p.m. on the same day.
In addition to the ground stop, a ground delay was initiated at 3 p.m. and projected to continue until midnight. The average delay experienced during the ground delay period was 104 minutes. More than 100 flights were cancelled at Denver International as a result of the weather conditions.

thunderstorms to linger around Denver International Airport through 10 p.m. on Friday and extend into the overnight hours. The ongoing storm activity in the Front Range region prompted the FAA’s decision to halt departures temporarily and impose delays, significantly disrupting airport operations.
