Carnival Cruise Line completed its inaugural solar eclipse cruise aboard Carnival Legend, which departed Dover, England on August 9, 2026. The 11-day Carnival Journeys voyage included stops in Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and France. The cruise was specifically planned to sail through the total solar eclipse path on August 12, 2026, offering guests an exclusive view of the celestial event from the open sea.
On the day of the eclipse, passengers gathered on deck to observe the total solar eclipse safely using specially provided eclipse-viewing glasses. The cruise featured dedicated programming related to the eclipse, along with themed entertainment and special
beverage selections throughout the voyage.
Carnival Journeys is a collection of extended itineraries designed to combine destination exploration with unique experiences at sea. The solar eclipse cruise aboard Carnival Legend is Carnival Cruise Line’s first event-based sailing offering under this product line, leveraging the uninterrupted ocean views to deliver a front-row seat to the eclipse.
Scheduled Solar Eclipse Cruises for 2027
Carnival has announced three additional solar eclipse cruises for 2027. Carnival Firenze will operate a 16-day Carnival Journeys sailing departing Buenos Aires, Argentina on February 2, 2027. This itinerary will position guests to witness the annular solar eclipse on February 6, 2027, with port calls
at Rio de Janeiro and Maceio in Brazil, Grenada, Martinique, and St. Maarten.
Carnival Sunshine will depart Barcelona, Spain on July 25, 2027, for a 10-day Mediterranean cruise to coincide with the August 2, 2027 solar eclipse. Separately, Carnival Miracle will set sail from Dover on July 29, 2027, for an 11-day Carnival Journeys itinerary that includes a dedicated eclipse viewing day at sea.
