Central Nebraska, St. Louis, the Midwest, and the High Plains are facing marginal risks of thunderstorms and stronger storms that could disrupt flight operations.
Weather Outlook from Thursday to Saturday
On Thursday, August 13, scattered thunderstorms remain possible in the Midwest and High Plains, maintaining a marginal risk for disruptions. Central US cities including Minneapolis, Denver, and Kansas City are forecasted to experience rainy conditions on Friday, with scattered showers expected to impact the region.
The Midwest will continue to see showers on Saturday, especially around Fargo, North Dakota, as well as Denver and Minneapolis. Although the forecast includes precipitation, the severe weather risk is not considered high by meteorologists.
FAA Advises Travelers to Monitor Flight Status
The FAA recommends that travelers stay updated on their flight status by consulting their airlines for possible changes. Additionally, the agency advises monitoring its National Airspace System Status page for real-time information on ground stops, ground delays, and airport closures that may result from evolving weather conditions through at least Saturday.
FAA Meteorologist Comments on Weather Risks
Becca Schuman, a meteorologist with the FAA Weather Squad, noted the potential for travels
delays due to “some stronger thunderstorms” in central Nebraska and St. Louis. She emphasized that while the “severe risk isn’t as high” toward the end of the weekend, “showers could still impact travel Friday evening.” Schuman added that by the weekend’s close, many travelers returning home will encounter mostly dry conditions despite isolated scattered showers.
