Denver International Airport experienced a ground stop and ground delay on Saturday due to high winds and staffing shortages. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a brief ground stop on departures from six FAA facilities: ZLA, ZLC, ZDV, ZKC, ZAB, and ZMP. The ground delay at Denver International Airport was announced for the afternoon and was estimated to last until 8:59 p.m. local time.
Departure and Arrival Delays at Denver
Departing flights across the contiguous United States faced an average delay of 143 minutes as a result of the disruptions at Denver International Airport. Arriving flights were experiencing an average delay of 15 minutes due to
high winds, with this delay expected to increase. The FAA stated the ground delay was due primarily to staffing shortages at Denver International Airport, which combined with strong winds have impeded normal aircraft movements on runways and taxiways.
