The Federal Aviation Administration has extended a ground stop at Newark Airport through 10:15 p.m. on August 8, 2026, amid ongoing severe thunderstorms affecting the tri-state region.
FlightAware data shows that as of 9:45 p.m. on August 8, 930 flights have been canceled and more than 1,000 flights delayed across Newark, John F. Kennedy, and LaGuardia airports. Ground stops at JFK and LaGuardia have been lifted, but residual delays continue.
Rail Service Disruptions
The severe storms have also caused suspensions of rail services on New Jersey Transit lines, adding to travel interruptions in the region.

This marks the second consecutive day that intense
thunderstorms have disrupted air and rail travel in the tri-state area, causing extensive cancellations and delays across multiple transportation modes.
