The 16th Magical Kenya Travel Expo is scheduled for October 6-8, 2026, at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi. The event expects to convene over 10,000 tourism delegates representing more than 40 countries, making it one of the largest travel trade gatherings in the East African region.

The expo aims to accelerate Kenya’s objective of attracting five million international tourists annually by 2027. It will focus on the theme “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Tourism,” emphasizing technological advancements such as AI, big data analytics, immersive experiences, digital payment systems, and smart destination solutions.

Participation includes over 400 exhibitors

and more than 250 international buyers. This marks a roughly 30 percent increase in delegate attendance compared to the 7,691 delegates who attended the 2025 expo. The growth reflects heightened global interest in Kenya’s tourism offerings and investment opportunities.

MICE Sector and Infrastructure Development

The expo highlights Kenya’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector as a critical pillar for expanding tourism revenues. The Kenya MICE Club, comprising members from government and private sectors, will lead discussions aimed at increasing competitiveness in the global MICE market. Upgraded conference facilities in Nairobi and Mombasa support attracting high-value business events and longer-staying corporate visitors.

Officials’ Statements on Tourism Growth

Kenya Tourism Board

CEO June Chepkemei stated, “Every element of this year’s MKTE programme, from the buyer selection to the seminar agenda, is informed by data and consumer demand intelligence.” She emphasized that MKTE serves as a platform for converting interest into arrivals with evidence-based marketing campaigns.

Duncan Muriuki, Chairman of the Kenya MICE Association, highlighted the sector’s potential, saying, “MICE is the next frontier for growing tourism revenue. Our focus is not just on increasing visitor numbers, but on attracting high-value business events that deliver greater economic impact.” He added that Kenya’s world-class facilities and ‘bleisure’ offerings position it well for securing

global events.

Raymond Cheruiyot, Chairman of the Tour Operators Society of Kenya, credited government initiatives stating, “The Government’s efforts to improve visa access and expand air connectivity have created a strong foundation for tourism growth.” These reforms underpin the sector’s expansion by facilitating easier entry and better flight connections.

Impacts on Travelers and Business Activities

The influx of delegates to Nairobi requires early flight and accommodation bookings to manage capacity constraints. The expo promotes smart tourism infrastructure that simplifies trip planning, digital payments, and itinerary customization for travelers. Sustainable tourism developments support eco-tourism, including community-guided walks and nature-based tours.

The event includes business-to-business meetings, tourism seminars,

and hosted familiarisation trips for buyers, enabling direct contracting and product familiarisation with Kenya’s key parks and resorts. These activities align Kenya’s offerings with evolving global demand trends, maintaining the country’s position in international tourism markets.
