The United States government has made the visa bond program permanent and increased the bond cap to $20,000, effective from August 1, 2026.

Dozens of countries are affected by this change, including Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. Applicants from these nations must now comply with the permanent visa bond requirement and the higher bond amount when applying for US visas.
